His early print designs were produced with publishers including Akiyama Buemon and Matsuki Heikichi. From the 1920s he also became associated with the influential publisher Watanabe Shōzaburō and the shin-hanga movement.

Koson's work became particularly popular with international collectors, and his exceptional sensitivity to birds, animals, weather and seasonal nature continues to make his prints highly distinctive today.
