Christina is a close, intimate portrait of a young woman whose pale camisole and exposed shoulders stand against a dark, muted background. The head tilts slightly above an elongated neck, while the compact crop keeps attention on the face, shoulders and simple sweep of the upper body.

Warm flesh tones and dark hair are balanced by a light garment and subdued blue-grey surroundings, producing a quiet tonal contrast. The restrained setting keeps attention on the figure and on the subtle shifts of line and colour across the surface.

Generally dated to around 1916, Christina belongs to Modigliani’s developing mature portrait period. The image already relies on elongated form and simplified facial geometry while retaining more natural modelling than many of his later portraits.
