Favoring an accurate portrayal over other highly stylized and unrealistic renderings, Richards distinguished himself from other artists of the time by creating photo-realistic landscapes using almost exclusively marine watercolors as his medium. Because of his intense passion to paint the truth of what his eyes saw and not a fantastical rendition, he was chosen to be a full member of the National Academy of Design in 1871.
William Trost Richards paved the way for other landscape artists to create from their surroundings instead of imagination and moved on to paint mainly seascapes in his later years; to get the appropriate perspective, he would often stand in the water to capture the wave's cresting. Many of his works of art can now be found in such esteemed places as The Saint Louis Art Museum, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, The Wadsworth Atheneum and The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
All prints are made using archival art stocks and UV pigment inks to give up to 200 years life. Prints are sold unframed and unmounted.

Rolled canvas options have an additional white border of approximately 2.5 inches (7cm) on all 4 sides to aid stretching.

Bought this print to replace a faded framed copy. It arrived sooner than expected and very well wrapped. The paper was excellent quality. It’s back on the wall looking brighter and better than ever.
I was looking for something different to adorn my office walls following a recent refurbishment and these fitted the bill perfectly. I work for the company they were originally designed for, so really like the heritage and retro feel they bring. Paired with some black IKEA Ribba frames they look really striking. A little pricey, but worth the investment I feel.
I purchased this as a remembrance to my grandmother Mamoo, who was born in 1895. She had a print hanging in her living room. As a child I just loved it. I had it for years then passed it a long to her great granddaughter but I wanted a small print. It is just beautiful and I love it!
