Konrad Mägi: colour and landscape
Konrad Mägi (1878–1925) helped shape modern Estonian painting. His work drew on Neo-Impressionism and Expressionism while retaining a distinctive approach to colour. Small, separate brushstrokes sit alongside broader passages of paint, giving his landscapes a strong sense of rhythm.
This collection brings together views of Estonia, Norway and Italy, including Vilsandi, Lake Saadjärv, Venice and Capri. Coastal scenes, rural landscapes and mountain views show the range of places he painted. His portraits offer another side of his work, bringing the same attention to colour into depictions of individual sitters.
