Fields and sky divided into colour

The Icknield Way looks across bands of cultivated ground towards a distant line of trees. Pink, orange and purple shapes also divide the broad sky above. The path and field edges establish depth, while the strongly separated colour areas make the whole view read as an interlocking arrangement.

Looking past the audience towards the stage

The Alhambra Ballet places dark foreground spectators below bright decorative forms, curtains and the more distant performance space. Warm reds and oranges interrupt the cooler surrounding colour. The cropped viewpoint makes the act of watching part of the subject, with the theatre itself occupying much of the image.

Vertical vessels beside rounded fruit

Blue and Green Bottles and Oranges sets tall coloured bottles above a pale tabletop, with oranges and a small glass close to their bases. Window lines and a darker furnishing divide the background. The simple objects provide clear contrasting shapes within a composition organised through adjacent blue, green and warm areas.
