Jules Pascin’s Portraits and Figure Paintings
People are at the centre of this collection: seated women, reclining models, family groups and figures absorbed in everyday activities. Pascin’s approach varies from loosely drawn studies to paintings built from stronger strokes of colour. A tilted head, a raised arm or the position of a chair can give each composition its particular character.
Works featuring Hermine David offer several approaches to a recurring sitter, from the studio setting of Hermine David à l’atelier to the domestic scene of Hermine David devant la table. Explore our wider portraits and people prints collection for other artists’ interpretations of the figure.
Reclining Figures and Studies of the Nude
The reclining figure appears throughout Pascin’s work, alongside seated models and more upright poses. These pictures invite attention to the relationship between the body, surrounding fabric and the edges of the composition. In Brune au collier bleu, raised arms and a blue necklace stand out against broad passages of green, ochre and warm pink.

Flowers, Landscapes and Outdoor Life
This collection also looks beyond the figure study. Fleurs brings red and yellow blooms into a loose arrangement of green stems and blue-green colour, while Southern Landscape opens onto a busy outdoor scene beneath spreading trees. These works reveal a brighter, more animated side of Pascin’s painting.
Other outdoor subjects include Paysage à Cuba, Parc à la Havanne and Landscape with Figures and Carriage. Discover more settings and approaches in our landscape and scenery prints.
About Jules Pascin
Jules Pascin (1885–1930) was born Julius Pincas in Vidin, Bulgaria. After working in Munich, he settled in Paris in 1905 and became part of the city’s international artistic community. Choose Your Jules Pascin Print
Consider the balance of line and colour when choosing a work. A softly drawn figure creates a different atmosphere from a richly coloured portrait or an outdoor scene filled with movement.
