Nude on a Divan stretches a reclining woman across a low brown couch before a russet-red wall. Her head rests towards the upper left while the body extends horizontally across the picture and the legs continue beyond the right edge, making the figure fill almost the entire canvas.

Warm peach, terracotta, brown and muted red tones create a close tonal harmony, with darker outlines defining the body against couch and wall. Rather than describe a detailed environment, the painting concentrates on the sitter’s posture, facial structure and relationship to the surrounding colour.

The National Gallery of Art dates the oil painting to 1918. Its wide format and direct gaze make the image markedly different from Modigliani’s vertical portrait compositions, while his characteristic long facial structure remains clearly visible.
