Giovanni Boldini Fine Art Print, An Elegant Lady

An Elegant Lady comes from 1871, just before Paris became Boldini’s permanent home. It is a compact portrait, but the sitter has real immediacy. Her clothing is handled with freedom while the face is observed more closely, giving the impression of a person encountered rather than a formal likeness constructed at a distance.

Boldini was already learning how much character could be carried by a tilt of the head, a dark accent of clothing or a quick stroke around the figure. The small panel has none of the monumental scale of his later society portraits, and that is part of its charm. It feels closer, quieter and more personal — a glimpse of the artist before the great sweeping portraits made his name internationally.

This intimate scale translates beautifully into smaller framed prints and gallery-wall arrangements, while larger formats reveal the looseness of Boldini’s brushwork. Available as fine art paper, framed print or canvas panel. Discover more Giovanni Boldini prints and portrait art. Free UK delivery is included.
