An original 1920's oil painting of a lock gate signed by the artist on the back. In the style of 19th century English landscape artist, Frederick William Watts
The scene depicts two boys fishing on the high bank of the canal just above the lock gates where water cascades down into the lower canal level. Dark clouds are sweeping across the sky towards the village in the rear right of the painting. A very strong and richly coloured work which creates an immediate intrigue and a real feeling of stepping back in time; it is a truly unique and striking painting.
The framed painting measures 17.5" (45cm) tall x 21.5" (55cm) wide overall and the dark brown wooden frame is approx. 4 inches wide. There is some minor historical damage to the decorative edges of the frame as shown in the pictures.
