Thomas Anshutz, The Ironworkers' Noontime
The Ironworkers' Noontime, Anshutz's most well known painting, depicts twenty-or-so workers on their break in the yard of a foundry. Painted near Wheeling, West Virginia, it is conceived in a naturalistic style similar to that of Eakins, although Eakins never painted industrial subjects. The piece was exhibited at the Philadelphia Sketch Club in 1881 and compared to Eakins's work by art critics. Art historian Randall C. Griffin has written of it: "One of the first American paintings to depict the bleakness of factory life, The Ironworkers' Noontime appears to be a clear indictment of industrialization. Its brutal candor startled critics, who saw it as unexpectedly confrontational—a chilling industrial snapshot not the least picturesque or sublime." It is now in the collection of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.
Thomas Pollock Anshutz (October 5, 1851 – June 16, 1912) was an American painter and teacher. Known for his portraiture and genre scenes, Anshutz was a co-founder of The Darby School. One of Thomas Eakins's most prominent students, he succeeded Eakins as director of drawing and painting classes at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.

Fine art papers are printed without any additional white border Please let us know at the time of ordering if you would like a small additional white border.
Rolled canvas options have an additional white border of approximately 2.5 inches (7cm) on all 4 sides to aid stretching.
Ready to hang canvas panels are stretched on 1.5 inch deep solid pine frames from sustainable forestry sources. The image is mirrored on all 4 sides to give an aesthetically pleasing finish.

Bought this print to replace a faded framed copy. It arrived sooner than expected and very well wrapped. The paper was excellent quality. It’s back on the wall looking brighter and better than ever.
I was looking for something different to adorn my office walls following a recent refurbishment and these fitted the bill perfectly. I work for the company they were originally designed for, so really like the heritage and retro feel they bring. Paired with some black IKEA Ribba frames they look really striking. A little pricey, but worth the investment I feel.
I purchased this as a remembrance to my grandmother Mamoo, who was born in 1895. She had a print hanging in her living room. As a child I just loved it. I had it for years then passed it a long to her great granddaughter but I wanted a small print. It is just beautiful and I love it!
