Mandarin Ducks is a beautifully balanced Japanese bird print showing a pair of ducks moving quietly across pale water beneath overhanging winter branches.

About Ohara Koson

Ohara Koson (1877–1945), also known later as Shōson, was a master of modern Japanese nature prints.

He specialised in birds and flowers but approached each species differently, carefully observing characteristic posture, movement and plumage.

His later colour woodblock prints were produced in collaboration with publishers including Watanabe Shōzaburō and became particularly popular with international collectors.
