John Martin Fine Art Print: The Great Day of His Wrath

The Great Day of His Wrath is John Martin’s most extreme vision of the end of the world. Mountains buckle, cities collapse and the earth appears to tear itself apart as crowds of tiny figures are swept towards the abyss. The scale is so vast that architecture, geology and humanity seem to be caught in the same convulsion.

Painted between 1851 and 1853 and now at Tate, the work forms part of Martin’s great Judgement Series with The Last Judgement and The Plains of Heaven. Its imagery draws on the Book of Revelation, particularly the breaking of the sixth seal and the upheaval of mountains, stars and the heavens. Martin turns that text into a landscape where divine judgement is expressed through physical destruction.

The panoramic format, intense reds and deep shadows make this a commanding focal point for larger walls. Available as a fine art print, framed print or canvas panel in multiple sizes, with free UK delivery.
