Jacques Carabain, Venice, the Grand Canal (1913)
Jacques François Carabain (1834-1933) was a Belgian painter known for his realistic depictions of rural life and landscapes. He often painted peasants at work in the fields or scenes of village life. Some key features of his work:
- Realism: Carabain painted in a realistic style, accurately capturing the details of figures, clothing, settings and lighting. His paintings provide a vivid documentation of 19th century Belgian rural life.
- Peasants and rural themes: Many of Carabain's paintings focus on the Belgian peasantry, portraying farmers, field workers, and country folk. He provides a romanticized view of rural life.
- Landscapes: In addition to figurative works, Carabain painted landscapes of the Belgian countryside. These often have a horizontal orientation and capture the colors and light of the natural world.
- Loose brushwork: While realistic, Carabain used loose, visible brushstrokes that give his paintings a sketch-like quality. This adds to the rustic charm of his depictions of rural subjects.

Size and Printed Materials
Fine art papers are printed without any additional white border Please let us know at the time of ordering if you would like a small additional white border.
Rolled canvas options have an additional white border of approximately 2.5 inches (7cm) on all 4 sides to aid stretching.
Ready to hang canvas panels are stretched on 1.5 inch deep solid pine frames from sustainable forestry sources. The image is mirrored on all 4 sides to give an aesthetically pleasing finish.

Bought this print to replace a faded framed copy. It arrived sooner than expected and very well wrapped. The paper was excellent quality. It’s back on the wall looking brighter and better than ever.
I was looking for something different to adorn my office walls following a recent refurbishment and these fitted the bill perfectly. I work for the company they were originally designed for, so really like the heritage and retro feel they bring. Paired with some black IKEA Ribba frames they look really striking. A little pricey, but worth the investment I feel.
I purchased this as a remembrance to my grandmother Mamoo, who was born in 1895. She had a print hanging in her living room. As a child I just loved it. I had it for years then passed it a long to her great granddaughter but I wanted a small print. It is just beautiful and I love it!
