Figures within a field of green

The White Birch sets lightly described bodies among pale trunks and closely related green tones. The surrounding colour partly absorbs their outlines. Rather than presenting a sharply separated group, the scene makes the figures emerge gradually from the same soft marks that describe the garden.

A seated figure before the instrument

The Spinet places the sitter’s pale shoulders and dress against a warmer, darker room. The chair and instrument provide clear enclosing forms. Their stronger edges give the quiet activity more definition than the bodies in the green outdoor view.

Two figures around a dark tabletop

A Reading separates the sitters across a broad reflective surface within a pale room. A book and small objects direct attention between them. The large table gives the arrangement a stable foreground, while the lightly described walls leave space around the figures and their shared activity.
