Wolfgang Paalen Prints – Imagined Spaces, Lines & Abstract Forms
Wolfgang Paalen prints move between recognisable but unusual structures and compositions with less fixed objects. Curves, repeated lines and shaded forms can suggest a space without describing an ordinary landscape. Explore the collection alongside abstract art, geometric prints and imaginative subjects.
A tall structure above reflective space
The Balance raises a narrow arched form above curved supports and a pale surrounding surface. A smaller branching shape occupies one side. The distant horizon suggests landscape, but the central construction gives the scene an unfamiliar scale and sense of enclosure.
Lines within a softly divided field
Fumage gathers loops, dark marks and pale shaded areas across a warm grey-green ground. Some forms appear more solid while others remain loosely drawn. The eye moves between them without a clear boundary separating a single foreground object from its background.
Curved bands across a darker surface
Origines fills the image with pale rib-like arcs and sweeping dark forms, interrupted by small yellow touches. Repetition gives the composition a strong rhythm. Compared with The Balance, the space is more densely occupied and less clearly opened towards a distant horizon.
