A bright figure within a patterned seat

Lady in a Yellow Dress places the sitter frontally with arms spread along the back of a deep green sofa. The yellow dress opens into a broad curved shape across the lower image. The restrained background keeps the face and outstretched pose legible above the richer pattern and colour of the seat.

Boats beyond the stone foreground

Ships along the Adriatic Coast looks across a low wall and planted edge towards clustered vessels, narrow masts and blue water. Pale hills rise behind the harbour. The many upright lines give the boats a shared rhythm, while the lighter land and sky leave room around their more closely gathered forms.

Buildings and sails in cool colour

The Port of Concarneau sets pale blue-grey architecture around the waterfront, with boats and warm sails visible beyond. A small bright roofed structure occupies the near edge. The repeated blocks and roof angles create a quieter, more geometric arrangement than the strong curve of the yellow dress in the portrait.
