Blue Corn Sheaves on a Forest Meadow (1947) by Hermann Max Pechstein
Blue Corn Sheaves on a Forest Meadow (1947), from the German title Blaue Kornpuppen auf einer Waldwiese, shows stacked grain sheaves scattered across an open field beneath a pale sky. Pechstein reduces the harvest landscape to delicate blue, green and yellow marks.
The original is a pastel chalk drawing on firm laid paper, measuring approximately 27.1 × 40.6 cm. Its light surface and economical drawing give the landscape an airy, almost sketchbook-like character.
Available as a fine art print, handmade framed print or canvas panel, this wide landscape works particularly well above beds, sofas and sideboards in light, neutral interiors.
Pastel colour across an open meadow
The repeated sheaves provide small vertical accents across the broad field. A dark woodland edge in the distance gives the pale foreground structure and depth.
About Hermann Max Pechstein
Hermann Max Pechstein (1881–1955) was a German painter and printmaker and one of the leading figures of German Expressionism. He joined Die Brücke in 1906 and became known for forceful contours, simplified forms and heightened colour. Figures, working life, coastal subjects, boats and landscapes remained important themes throughout his career.
Style and technique
Pechstein uses pastel chalk with a light, linear touch rather than dense modelling. The restrained blue-green palette creates a softer mood than many of his earlier Expressionist landscapes.
Available as fine art prints, framed prints and canvas panels.
Soft blue, green and beige tones complement calm interiors.
