Mountain water and the near shore

In North Wales places calm water beneath a broad mountain slope, with animals and grassy ground close to the viewer. The difference between the detailed foreground and the more distant land gives the view its depth. Other Welsh subjects move through valleys, hills and reflective water.

The Scottish loch and its enclosing slopes

The Head of Loch Awe looks between steep sides towards a luminous distance, with cloud and reflected light softening the water. Other Scottish settings include Loch Lomond, the Tay and the Dee. These works offer related ways of balancing a sheltered foreground with a wider mountain view.

The castle in evening light

Windsor Castle at Sunset sets the building above trees and reflective water beneath a warm sky. Architecture becomes part of the larger landscape rather than a separate close study. Explore architecture and cityscapes for other buildings pictured within their surroundings.
